Frequently Asked Questions

A FEW HELPFUL DETAILS

We’re so excited to celebrate with you! To help you plan for the weekend, we’ve put together answers to a few common questions about attire, travel, parking, and wedding day details below.

Is there a Formal Dress Code?

Our wedding is black tie, so we’d love for guests to dress up with us for the evening. Think gowns, formal dresses, tuxedos, suits, and elevated summer pieces.

Since August in DC can be warm, lighter fabrics, florals, and seasonal colors are welcome and encouraged. We kindly ask that guests avoid white, ivory, cream, champagne, or anything close to white. We also ask that guests try avoid green tones, as green is reserved for the bridal party.

Will the ceremony/ reception be outdoors?

The ceremony and dinner will be outdoors. Cocktail hour and reception will be indoors. We recommend checking the weather and planning accordingly.

What’s the August weather like in DC?

Expect warm temperatures (often in the 80s–90s°F) with some humidity. We recommend light, breathable fabrics and checking the forecast closer to the wedding weekend. A light shawl, wrap, or jacket may also be helpful for cooler evenings or indoor air conditioning.

Can I bring a plus-one?

If your invitation includes a plus-one, it will be listed on your RSVP. Due to space limitations, we’re only able to accommodate the guests named on your invitation.

Are children invited to the wedding?

As much as we love your little ones, our wedding will be an adults-only celebration. The only exceptions will be children in the bridal party and immediate family.

For guests traveling with children, some nearby hotels may be able to recommend local babysitting services. Our venue is also a short walk from the closest hotel, making it easier to check in if needed.

How do I get to and around DC?

DC is easy to get to by plane or train, with three major airports nearby and train service into Union Station. For more details on airports and hotels, visit our Travel page.

Once you’re here, DC is very walkable and easy to get around by Metro, taxi, or rideshare. Visit our Things to Do page.

Is transportation or parking available?

Transportation will not be provided as our recommended hotels are all within walking distance of the venue. Street parking may be available nearby, but because parking in DC can be limited, we recommend using rideshare services when possible.

What time should I arrive to the event?

We recommend arriving 30 minutes before the ceremony start time so you have time to get settled with refreshments. To keep the ceremony uninterrupted, doors will close once it begins. Any late arrivals will be warmly welcomed to join cocktail hour afterward.

Will there be an open bar?

Yes! There will be an open bar during the event. We kindly ask that guests drink responsibly and enjoy the evening safely.

Venue rules we should know about?

Our venue is a historic museum, so we kindly ask that guests treat the space with care and respect. Please avoid touching museum displays, entering restricted areas, or placing drinks on antique furniture or surfaces. Thank you for helping us celebrate in such a special place.
